The Departments of Mathematics and of Computer Science, respectively, are pleased to offer financial assistance to academically talented but financially challenged students in mathematics and/or computer sciences through the Lamar U. CSEMS Scholarship Program. The Program is funded by the National Science Foundation.
The Program may provide up to two years of financial assistance to talented but financially disadvantaged undergraduate students in mathematics and computer science via competitive scholarships. Student selected for the Program will be designated Lamar U. CSEMS Scholars. The expected results of the new program are increased rates of retention, graduation, and entry into graduate and/or professional programs.
Funding amounts are expected to be $1562.50 per student per semester. Funding is on a semester by semester basis. Funding is available for a maximum of four semesters (fall and spring, no funding is available in the summer terms).
Scholars will receive special academic advising and mentoring provided by the university through a designated Lamar U. CSEMS Advisor; academic support seminars, tutorial assistance as needed, career information and placement services through the Career Center; professional seminars, and assistance in making a smooth transition to graduate school. These activities are designed to assist Scholars with their academic needs that will in turn positively impact their university experience, retention and graduation rates, and entry into graduate and professional programs.
