Lecture Notes
Linear Algebra is the study of vector spaces and linear transformations.  These two ideas lead naturally to the study of systems of linear equations.  The big ideas are The Dimension Theorem and the Isomorphism between the vector space of m by n matrices and the vector space of linear transformations.  We will study various methods of solving systems of linear equations and we will develop the theory of vector spaces from a constructive viewpoint.  The syllabus is in Microsoft Word 2000 format.

August 22: I have reserved the book Linear Algebra by Freidburg for you in the Library.  Just go to the second floor and ask to see it.  You can't take it with you, so if you want to make copies you'll have to do that at the library.

August 29: I changed Homework assignment 2, there were some problems on the old version that weren't addressed in the notes.
Exam Dates: The first three are at night from 7-9pm in L119.  The final is as scheduled.
